The history of HPI mirrors the growth of professional guiding in Indonesia — from a local association in Bali to a world-recognized national body.
1969
Bali Guide Association (BGA)
HPI traces its roots to the Bali Guide Association, formed by guides in Bali.
1983
Himpunan Duta Wisata Indonesia (HDWI)
BGA grew into HDWI, declared on 27 March 1983 in Kuta, Bali.
1988
Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia (HPI)
The Munas I congress in Palembang (5 October 1988) officially renamed the organization HPI.
Today HPI is an official member of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA), with the Bird of Paradise (Cendrawasih) as its emblem.
